WMU Fishing Club is proud to announce the first annual Cravin’ Chrome Winter Classic, co-hosted by WMU and Shag’s TBN Outfitters!!!

The buzz is already going strong in the Grand Rapids area, and many club members are already on board. This tournament is open to ALL interested steelheaders. Robert “Shag” Trent, owner of TBN Outfitters, is currently working with the club to promote this event, which will be held on the last Saturday in February. We are expecting a great outcome for this event!

The event rules and results are as follows:
-Teams of two fisherman

-Fisherman may fish the Grand River and any of its tributaries
-Fishing starts at 6:00 a.m. and the deadline for weigh-in will be 5:30 p.m. ; weigh-in will be held at TBN outfitters.
-The most WEIGHT from the top three fish from the TEAM will be entered as final catch.
-Cash prizes based on entry will be distributed as a purse, places one through 5 will recieve purse money, sixth place through tenth place will get their entry money back. Based on 50 entries, the purse will be $1000!!! the more entries, the better!!!
-$5 from each entry goes to the club to ensure the unrivaled success of Spring ‘10 and all future events
-Steelhead only tournament!!!
Entry fees will cover food after the tournament, and a tournament t-shirt, as well as tournament inclusion. This is going to be a heck of a tournament, a great time, and will contribute to helping out in the GR area…

All fish caught will be cleaned and donated to God’s Kitchen to benefit families in need!!!

Soon to come: You may pre-register for this tournament as well as the spring tournament by going to the club website: wmufishingteam.com. there will be a link for pre-registration by cc. this will help to make payments easier for interested fisherman, as well as helping the club put on better events. Look for this link in the coming days; we will be setting this up starting tomorrow, and I will post the link here as well as on tss and Shag’s website, fliesandtackle.com, as soon as it is finished.

I hope to see as many of you at TBN Outfitters on Feb. 27! Lets make this a great tournament, and a new tradition that will add to the legacy of great times and great fishing here at the WMU Fishing Club! Tight Lines to all
sincerely,

Preston Marson

Slush in the Grand Slowing it down a little

We have been having allot of Slush come over the dam right now. Few guys are hitting some fish on jigs and wax worms but most are using spawn. Seen a few Fly guys hitting um above the first coffer dam on eggs. This Time of year the Fishing get’s a little harder to hit one. Use Light line. I’m talking 2 to 4 lb leader. And slowing your drift down just a little bit on your jigs and shaking the tip of your Rod to give it a little action helps to get um to hit this time of year. SPEED CONTROL…….DEPTH CONTROL…LINE CONTROL!!!!!!! Few guys are hitting some walleye in the river as well. Use buck tail jigs or pattle tails.
