Catching Fish Big as your KID!!!!!

Catfishing still going strong on the Grand. The Big Shovel Heads every where!!! Get out there and go fishing. TAKE A KID FISHING AND HAVE UM HOOK ONE OF THESE FISH!!!! THEY WILL BE HOOKED FOR A LIFE TIME!!!

Bridge Cattin is in!!!
Don’t have a boat to get to the hole’s on the Grand River or want to change up the way you fish? Try fishing off a Bridge. One nice thing about Grand Rapids is that do allow you to fish off the Bridge’s. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!!! Your on one the Best River’s in this Nation for all Species. USE UM!! There their for you to wet a line and sit back and wait for your Rod to go Over the bridge. And I say that because if you don’t tie down your rod in a second your pole will be in the drink. I have seen allot of Poles go in the River!!! I have had Poles that have went into the River. So be carefull when you do it out. Because this TROPHY HUNTING WATERS!!!! Get your Bait out and HOLD ON SON!!!
What we have been doing is using Suckers. We have been using 3 oz weights. And then Snelling 2 #2/0 or even Small Hooks on. Using one back far enough so you can sew your bait on with your stinger.
They have been hitting light too. The tap tap isnt always your bait moving. Those tap tap can be that fish coming up and sucking it downand then Spitting it out because your ass was asleep on the bite and you have been sitting for 3 hours with not to many hits and then when the big one comes around to your Rod. Your Dumb ass was half asleep and you missed your chance for the night. I get guys coming in here all the time saying man I can”t catch a fish!!! And I ask um? Did you get any Bites. Ya I got Bites. Well how was your rigged and they Show many how they tie there hooks on and it looks like they just had some Little 3 year old tie there Rig up!!!
That’s a BIG part of it too. if your not rigged right. You are going to miss allot of Fish by pulling it right out of there mouth. Others I see that come into the store with have every dam swivel in there tackle box on there line with droppers and everything else. And then ask me the Dumb ASS Question why am I always getting tangled up? KISS BABY KISS!!!!! Remeber that old Phrase KISS KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!!!! When your trying to tie a shit ton of stuff on your line that you don’t need on there. Something is going to happen. Now trust me I have used Rocks, Spark Plugs, Bolts, Metal Parts you name it I bit I’ve tryed it. When you don’t have the Right stuff you will use anything just to get your bait down. But if you want to do it another way. try using a NO ROLL RIVER SINKER, then a Bead!!! Why the Bead???? Because its going to protect your knot from that big ass weight coming down and smashing your knot up. Then Tie a Hook on. Not A swivel a HOOK!!! Less stuff down there to get tangled up on. Try it. Catfish don’t care that that weight is right there.
We have been using Suckers lately and Creek Chubs to get um to bite. We have been throwing gills with no luck but the SUCK SUCK is on FIRE!!!
Nothern Pike are on the FEED!!!
With Summer at full swing. The Pike are on the Move. Fishing Drop offs, Weed Edges and the Mouths of Small Creeks are the Ticket!!!
Allot of people will float Suckers, Creek Chubs or Gills underneath Floats. Others Like Huge Boby baits or Spoons. Put every Pike fisherman has one thing in Common They will do what ever it takes to get that Fish on the Line.
The Shovel Head Bite is ON!!!!
Took a few buddy’s Fishing the other Night. And we had Live Suckers out. Big and Small Gills out. But not until 3 hours in the Trip I grabbed a Sucker and Cut him up. We Started to hit Fish. I threw that Cut bait out. And about 5 minutes later. FISH ON SUN!!! Hit 3 really Nice ones.
What we was doing was trying to find the inside Bens. So if the river had a Dog Leg right turn in it. We would fish on that Right side to get out of the current. And then we Started to hit um good. Had allot of Runs that we Missed. Because I was using Circle Hooks. And when they got trigger happy and tryed to cross there eyes with that hook it would pull right out on um. But then they Started to reel down um him and Hooking more fish.
We did have a really nice run on a Live Suckers too. The Drag was going off and he was off to show his Girlfriend what he found for Dinner. Got the Rod in my hands and he was still heading South. I set the Hook and S.O.B. I missed him. I even had a stinger hook on the Tail end of it. Started to real in and then I hooked it!!!!! About a 2 foot log.
But all in all the night was great. The Full Moon is out and the stars was out bright as can be. Love this Time of year.

Take a Kid Fishing!!!!!
My daughter is out of School. It’s summer time!!!!
I Asked her if she wanted to go Fishing in the morning and she was all about it. Told her we was leaving super early in the morning to get a Jump on day light. So the alarm clock rang I Turned the coffey Pot on and went and turned her light on in her bedroom. And said you ready to go fishing? And before i knew it she was up and ready to hit the lake. It’s something else to see a Kid so excited about going in the Outdoors!!!! Ya know when it’s time for school and i have to wake her up i would have to tell her a few times to get out of bed. But that morning. She was all Bright eyed and Bushy tailed about going fishing with her Daddy!!
We loaded up the Boat and we start down the road. I give her the Map and ask her Where we going? She kinda looked at me a little weird but then she grabbed the Map and I pointed to her where we was at. And I said lets go North!!! So I guided her to the Page above Grand Rapids in the atlas and she gazed at the map for a good 5 min. Looking at lakes and wondering where she is getting her next Big lunker will be at. Well She found it. And with a Big Smile on her face she looked at me and said Daddy this lake right here looks like there is some Big Fish in it. ;c) We have us a Lake!!!! We went up to Canadain Lakes. South of Big Rapids.
There are three lakes there that run together and channels on um so u can jump lake to lake.
First spot we went to. We anchored up and we started to Fish for some gills. And we started to catch a few. Not to many Big ones but enough to keep her HAPPY!!!
Caught a Few nice Gills. And I put 2 of um on a Big Bobber hoping to hit a Pike.
We was at the hole for about 20 minutes catching some fish and then here comes these guys spreading stuff for weeds. And then they cut 5 foot from the boat and then go over one of my lines. Um ya!!! If I didn’t have my daughter with me those ol Boys would of hand there hands full with me because that sent me threw the roof.
But they got out of our way and we pulled up anchor and went to another spot.
Never fished this lake a day in my life So i looked for changes on the bank that might draw so fish to it. And Dropped anchor again. No sooner than we threw out. BAM!!! Big BASS!!! Get the NET Daddy Get the Net!!!! It’s a Big one DADDY!!! Man hearing those words coming out of her mouth was the coolest thing to hear!!! She Gets the Fish in and she is wanting it to be mounted!!!! Can we Keep it Can we Keep it she said. I said ya know you need to let these Big Ones go. And that just Bummbed her out so bad. But i Snapped a couple Pictures and Showed her how to release it. And then it swam off. And she looked at me and said it was happy Daddy.
Well we Fished there a little More and then went to another Cove and Hit some Fish and then we went to Hot Dog Island. Every Where we go I try to Bring some Hot Dogs or Something so we can make a little camp Fire and Cook Some Food. We ate Lunch and she was about all Tuckerd out froma Hard days Fishing.
We had a Blast. Try giving your Kid the map one day and say Where we Going? It’s a Good Time!!!
